The Call to Distribute

There are moments in life when one does not choose a path; rather, the path gently yet firmly chooses the soul. The service of book distribution entered my life in exactly this way — not as a planned activity, not as a personal ambition, but as a causeless gift of mercy bestowed by Srila Prabhupada, the founder acharya of ISKCON.

By the mercy of Vaishnavas, I was introduced to what later became the most transformative service of my life — distributing the transcendental books of His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Srila Prabhupada. What appeared outwardly as the simple act of offering a book soon revealed itself as a profound spiritual exchange, orchestrated invisibly by Lord Krishna Himself.

This service did not begin with confidence or qualification. It began with humility and fear — fear of rejection, fear of speaking inadequately, fear of being misunderstood. Yet, it was precisely in this vulnerability that Lord Krishna’s mercy began to flow. I quickly realized that I was not distributing books; the books were distributing mercy — on me first.

The Foundation of the Service

Book distribution is not a mechanical activity. It is not salesmanship, nor persuasion, nor debate. It is a sadhana, deeply rooted in one’s personal spiritual discipline.

Before stepping into this service, I was preparing to anchor myself in the following principles:

·       Cultivating enthusiasm (Utsāha) as described by Srila Rupa Goswami

·       Carrying genuine compassion for all living beings caught in the cycle of birth and death

·       Remembering the golden instruction of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu:

“Yāre dekha, tāre kaha Kṛṣṇa-upadeśa”
— Speak Krishna consciousness to whomever you meet

Without these foundations, book distribution becomes dry. With them, even a single conversation can become spiritually life-altering — for both the giver and the receiver.

From Hesitation to Conviction

In the early days, each interaction felt unpredictable. Some encounters lasted only seconds, others unfolded into deep conversations touching upon life, death, happiness, fear, independence, and the meaning of existence.

What surprised me most was not resistance — but openness. Even those who initially claimed to have no interest in religion often carried silent questions within their hearts. A simple, respectful dialogue would sometimes open doors that logic alone never could.

Gradually, I understood a vital truth:

Lord Krishna does not need our eloquence. He only needs our sincerity.

When the intention is pure, words arrange themselves. When the heart is aligned, Lord Krishna speaks.

Why This Book Exists

Over time, these encounters accumulated — not as statistics, but as living testimonies of how Srimad Bhagavad Gita quietly enters lives and begins its work. Many of these moments were documented, shared with devotees, or preserved as memories of mercy.

This book is not written to glorify an individual.

It exists to:

·       Glorify Srila Prabhupada, whose books are saving countless lives

·       Inspire devotees who hesitate, thinking themselves unqualified

·       Show how ordinary conversations become extraordinary when centered on Lord Krishna

·       Preserve real, unscripted encounters where Bhagavad Gita met modern life

If even one reader feels inspired to open the Bhagavad Gita, or to place it into another’s hands with compassion, then this effort will be successful.

A Humble Prayer

I remain fully aware of my insignificance and limitations. Any good that appears in these pages belongs to Srila Prabhupada & Sri Sri Radha Shyamsundar. Any shortcomings are mine alone.

I am ever grateful to my family who always supported and stood by me not only in this transcendental service, but also in every sphere of my life.

May this humble offering serve as a reminder that Krishna consciousness spreads not by force, but by mercy — one conversation, one book, and one softened heart at a time.

Flautist,
Happy Bhardwaj
