As the new year dawns, many of us think of resolutions, gifts, and fresh beginnings. But sometimes, the most meaningful gift isn’t wrapped in shiny paper—it’s the timeless wisdom of the Srimad Bhagavad Gita, passed from one heart to another.
This heartwarming encounter with an MBBS student specializing in cardiology shows just how beautifully that gift can unfold.
I approached him and asked about the Bhagavad Gita.
“I am already having Bhagavad Gita…” he replied.
“That’s wonderful! So please, gift this copy to someone
spiritually inclined this new year!!” I suggested enthusiastically.
He hesitated thoughtfully. “But I don’t know whether he
would be able to properly read or understand the message in this scripture…”
Curious, I asked, “What do you do, by the way?”
“I’m doing MBBS in cardiology…”
“That’s truly great! So, have you studied all the books
related to this field?”
“Of course not; how can I study all!!…”
“Exactly,” I smiled. “Before purchasing the
books that you presently have, were you confident that you would understand
each and every chapter or section in them—even though they relate directly to
your field of study?”
“No…” he admitted.
“But still, you purchased them because they are
renowned and connected to your path. Similarly, the Bhagavad Gita is meant for
everyone and is renowned since ages. We cannot speculate with our own mental
calculations whether someone will understand it or not. Please go ahead and
bring this light into the life of someone you adore this new year.”
He reflected for a moment, then asked, “What’s its
price by the way…”
With joy rising in my heart, I handed it over.
All glories to this kind-hearted future doctor for becoming
a channel of divine light!
All glories to Srila Prabhupada, whose Bhagavad Gita, As It
Is, continues to illuminate souls across professions and generations.
This conversation is a gentle reminder: We often hesitate to
share spiritual knowledge, fearing it won’t be “understood.” But just
as we trust renowned medical texts to guide us even when we’re not experts yet,
the Gita is a universal guide—perfect for every seeker, ready or not. The new
year is the perfect time to gift it to someone dear: a friend, family member,
colleague, or even a stranger whose heart might be searching.
You never know—one small gift can plant the seed that
changes a life forever.
What’s a meaningful gift you’re inspired to give this year?
Perhaps the Gita itself? Share your thoughts below—let’s inspire each other to
spread this divine light!
