The “Real” Friend: The One who shows the “Reality”!!

In a world full of surface-level connections, true friendship sometimes arrives disguised as a simple book distribution moment.

This touching exchange with a young chap shows how one small step—gifting the Bhagavad Gita—can ripple out to awaken not just one soul, but two.

I offered him a copy of Srimad Bhagavad Gita.

“I am already having Bhagavad Gita. Thanks,” he replied politely.

“Excellent! Won’t you want to gift this scripture to someone in your circle?” I asked with enthusiasm.

“All of my relatives are already having this book,” he said.

“What about your friends and associates? You know, you become a real friend once you show the reality of this life to your friends.”

Curiosity sparked. “What’s the “reality” you are speaking about?”

I smiled gently. “This short conversation is not enough for you to fully grasp it. You have to go through the verses mentioned in Bhagavad Gita. But to keep it short: The reality is that Lord Krishna is the Supreme Master (Swami) and we all are his servants (Daasa). Our true happiness lies in hearing from the master and serving Him with love. So please, accept this Gita!”

He reflected for a moment, then said with newfound resolve: “I will start reading the one which I am having at home, and please give me this book also—for gifting to one of my close friends.”

In that instant, the air felt charged with quiet victory. Hari bol! A chain of grace had begun.

Thankful to this boy who is now not only embarking on his own journey to know the supreme reality—Lord Krishna—but also helping his close friend discover the same timeless truth!

All glories to Srila Prabhupada, whose Bhagavad Gita, As It Is, continues to turn ordinary people into instruments of divine friendship.

This encounter carries a profound lesson: We often think spiritual life is a private, personal affair. But Krishna consciousness is deeply relational—it’s about becoming a true friend by sharing the highest knowledge.

When this young chap decided to gift the Gita to his close friend, he wasn’t just passing on a book; he was extending an invitation to freedom from illusion, to real happiness, to the eternal relationship with Lord Krishna!

Who in your circle could benefit from Bhagavad Gita? A friend who’s searching, a colleague who’s stressed, a loved one who’s quietly wondering about the meaning of it all? The new year (or any day!) is the perfect moment to become that real friend.

What’s one person you’re inspired to share the Gita with? Drop their story (anonymously if you like) in the comments—let’s encourage each other to spread this light further!
