Some spiritual journeys begin on screens, but the real magic
often happens when wisdom steps off the digital page and into the tangible
world—right onto a family bookshelf where it can quietly invite everyone in.
This delightful encounter from May 8, 2015, captures that beautiful transition
with warmth and wisdom.
I offered him a physical copy of the Srimad Bhagavad Gita.
“Dear, I have the soft version in PDF of this Bhagavad
Gita…” he shared.
“That’s good! So have you gone through it?”
“Yes… All the eighteen chapters,” he replied
proudly.
“Superb! And what about your family?”
“Means…?”
“I mean, has your family gone through the Bhagavad
Gita?”
“No…”
I smiled and said gently, “Maybe because the soft copy
is soft enough : )”
“Now please have this hard copy. Having the hard copy
is a boon. When it comes across the eyes of those passing by the shelf on which
it is placed, curiosity naturally arises: ‘What’s in this book? Why is Lord
Krishna acting as a charioteer?’ I went through exactly the same set of
questions when I first came across this book on the shelf at my home many years
ago.”
His face lit up with understanding. “That’s a great
idea… Yes, I can have this book placed on the study shelf at my home so that
anyone can have access.”
“Great! Thanks to you for accepting the Bhagavad
Gita.”
“Thanks… What do you do by the way?”
“I try to spread the knowledge of Srimad Bhagavad Gita
and the sound of the divine flute.”
As he took the book, the moment felt complete—a digital
reader now ready to become a family catalyst.
All glories to Srila Prabhupada, whose Bhagavad Gita, As It
Is, continues to move from screens to shelves, from individual study to
household treasure.
This conversation is a gentle, joyful reminder: Digital
wisdom is wonderful—many of us first meet Krishna through PDFs or apps—but
there’s something uniquely powerful about the physical book. It sits quietly,
visible to children running past, guests visiting, spouses tidying shelves. It
doesn’t need to be opened to begin its work; its mere presence plants seeds
of wonder.
One glance at Krishna holding the reins, one innocent
question—“Why is God driving the chariot?”—and a whole journey can unfold.
To everyone who has read chapters on a phone or laptop:
Consider inviting the hard copy home. Place it where eyes naturally fall. Let
it become part of the décor of your life—and watch how Krishna uses even
silence to speak.
Have you ever experienced the shift from digital to physical
scripture in your own home? Did it change anything for your family or visitors?
