Not Difficult to Understand the Bhagavad Gita—Faith Is the Key Here

On June 24, 2015, inside the steady rhythm of a moving train, another traveller named Gaurav shared a very honest and common experience: He already owned the Bhagavad Gita, had even attempted to read it, but found it difficult and eventually set it aside. What followed was a gentle, train-journey analogy that turned hesitation into renewed hope—and then into an act of loving service.

I offered him another copy of Srimad Bhagavad Gita.

“I am already having this book… And have gone through it as well,” he said.

“That’s great!”

“But I found it very difficult to read or understand and have stopped reading it…”

“Faith is the key to understand the Bhagavad Gita,” I replied softly. “Right now, you are travelling in this train with faith that the driver will take all of us safely to our destination. Have you checked his license? Have you checked if he is in good state?”

“No..” he admitted.

“Exactly. Because you have faith that he will take us to the destination—that’s why we are freely travelling, eating, reading, relaxing. We don’t question every detail.”

“But what’s the point actually you are trying to make…?”

“The point is faith,” I continued. “With firm faith—believing Lord Krishna as the Supreme Controller—start reading the Gita again. This time, carry the assurance that just as this train driver will take us to our physical destination, studying the Bhagavad Gita will take you to the abode of the Supreme Personality—where there is unconditional love, eternal happiness, and no more anxiety or suffering.”

“I will try…” he said thoughtfully.

“That’s great! Since you are already having one copy at home, please gift this another copy to your near and dear ones.”

“First let me read and complete it…”

“But that may take a lot of time,” I smiled. “Utilize this time in serving your loved ones by gifting them this copy of Srimad Bhagavad Gita right now.”

A quiet pause, then a warm nod. “Nice… I can do that.”

As he accepted the book for his family and friends, the compartment felt filled with quiet grace.

I am thankful to Gaurav for recommitting to read with faith and for serving his near and dear ones by gifting them Srimad Bhagavad Gita!

All glories to Srila Prabhupada, who presented Lord Krishna’s words so clearly that even those who once found them difficult can return with fresh trust and share them freely.

This train conversation is a loving reminder for anyone who has ever started the Gita, felt overwhelmed, and quietly set it aside: Understanding doesn’t come from intellectual mastery alone—it blooms from Faith. Just as we board trains without inspecting every detail, we can open the Gita trusting that Lord Krishna, the perfect driver, will guide us safely home. And once that faith awakens, even the same verses begin to speak in new, clearer ways.

Gaurav’s decision to gift the book while continuing his own reading shows the natural flow of bhakti: receive with faith, then share with love. One small act of trust can ripple outward, touching entire families.

If you’ve ever paused your Gita book reading because it felt “too difficult,” let this story be your gentle encouragement: Start again today—with Faith. Trust Lord Krishna as the driver. Read a verse or two. The destination is certain, and the journey becomes joyful.

Have you rediscovered the Gita after setting it aside? Or gifted it to someone when you were still learning yourself? Share your experience below—your story of renewed faith might help someone else board the train again today.

More sacred moments and heartfelt awakenings coming soon, all building toward a book filled with these divine, faith-filled conversations. Keep the faith!
