On June 24, 2015, amid the gentle sway of a moving train and the soft murmur of fellow passengers, a curious traveller voiced a question many have quietly wondered: “Why are you distributing only the Bhagavad Gita? I have seen people, at times, distributing this book…”
I offered him a copy and replied with a gentle smile.
“This book is of special significance because the real meaning and purpose of this special human life is known by studying it.”
“Why not any other literature?”
“Since this was spoken directly from the Supreme Personality of Godhead, Lord Krishna Himself. Listening about God and His creation from God Himself—that is the Bhagavad Gita.”
“How do you know that He is the Supreme?”
“Through our mother—Ancient Scriptures. These scriptures tell us who is truly God (Bhagavan, the Supreme Controller) and who are the demigods (Devatas). That is why I am requesting you to go through this scripture and know about God from God Himself.”
“Ok… Hope I will be able to understand.”
“Absolutely—it just requires your faith in the mercy of Lord Krishna!”
As he accepted the book with a thoughtful nod, the compartment seemed to hold a quiet reverence.
I am thankful to this sincere soul who is now going to know about the Supreme Controller and the essence of life by studying the Bhagavad Gita!
All glories to Srila Prabhupada, who carried Lord Krishna’s direct words across the world so that even strangers on trains could hear the Supreme speak for themselves.
This train conversation is a gentle, profound reminder: In a world filled with countless books, philosophies, and opinions, the Bhagavad Gita stands alone because it is not commentary or speculation—it is Lord Krishna speaking directly. Other literature may inspire or inform, but only the Gita gives us the voice of God explaining who He is, who we are, why we suffer, and how to return to eternal happiness. When we approach it with even a little faith in Lord Krishna’s mercy, the difficult becomes clear, the distant becomes near, and the purpose of life begins to shine.
The traveller’s simple “Hope I will be able to understand” is the perfect starting point. Lord Krishna doesn’t demand perfect intellect—He asks for sincere faith. And with that faith, even a beginner can taste the sweetness of hearing directly from the Supreme.
If you’ve ever wondered “Why only the Gita?” or hesitated thinking “Will I understand it?”, let this story reassure you: The book was spoken by the one who knows you better than you know yourself. Open it with trust, and Lord Krishna will speak to your heart.
