A Gentle Push from Eternity: The Young Boy and the Gift of Now

In the whirlwind of youth, where tomorrow always seems brighter and bigger, one ordinary evening turned into a timeless reminder: the rare human birth isn’t meant to be postponed.

This is the story of a young boy—full of dreams, plans, and the classic “later”—who crossed paths with a simple invitation to something profound.

I approached him with a copy of the Srimad Bhagavad Gita in hand. “Do you have the Gita?” I asked gently.

He shook his head. “I don’t have…”

“Prabhu, please accept this Gita today and let the rest of your life become Krishna-conscious,” I said with a smile.

He hesitated, eyes flickering with the familiar spark of youthful ambition. “I do plan to study it… but after some time.”

“Why not now?” I asked, my voice soft but earnest. “God has already been incredibly merciful by granting us this Durlabha Maanush Janma—the rare human birth. This body isn’t given again just for eating, sleeping, defending, and mating. It’s a golden opportunity to chant, study, sing, and dance on the glories of Lord Krishna!”

To bring the point home even more poetically, I quoted the immortal words from Srila Narottam Das Thakur’s enlightening bhajan:

Maanav Janam Paaiya, Radha Krishna Na Bhajiya,

Jaaniya Suniya Vish Khaainu…

(Having obtained this human birth, if one does not worship Radha and Krishna, knowing and hearing this truth, one is knowingly drinking poison.)

This line from a great Vaishnava saint pierces the heart—it’s a loving wake-up call from centuries ago, still ringing true today.

The young boy listened quietly, then said, “I will take it on my own some other day…”

“But where is the difficulty today please?” I replied gently.

He paused, then shared the real hurdle: “How much is this book for?”

“Don’t worry, prabhu,” I assured him. “Just a small contribution for the biggest cause imaginable—your own spiritual awakening!”

With a shy smile and a soft “OK ji,” he accepted the book.

In that moment, something shifted. A young life, once drifting toward “later,” took a small but decisive step toward the eternal “now.”

Thankful to this young soul for opening his heart to devotional service—the topmost boon of human existence!

All glories to Srila Prabhupada, who made this wisdom accessible to every generation.

This encounter is a quiet thunderclap: Life doesn’t wait for us to “be ready.” The rare gift of human birth is here now, pulsing with the invitation to connect with Lord Krishna.

If you’re reading this and feeling that gentle tug in your heart, remember: Today is the perfect day. The Gita is waiting, not as a future plan, but as today’s companion.
