Let the New Generation Know: When A Father Gifts Bhagavad Gita to His Son

In yet another heartfelt moment, a father’s quiet love for the Bhagavad Gita met a gentle encouragement to pass that same love forward. What began as an appreciation for the book quickly became a sacred commitment: to place Lord Krishna’s words directly into the hands—and heart—of the new generation.

I offered him a copy of Srimad Bhagavad Gita.

“I like this book very much… And I already have this,” he said warmly.

“That’s great!” I replied, noticing the young boy sitting alongwith him. “He (left in the picture) is your son?”

“Yes…”

“Great. Does he know about Bhagavad Gita and Lord Krishna?”

“Yes… We like this scripture very much.”

“So a humble request to you,” I continued gently. “Gift this book to your son as his personal life book. Motivate him to always carry and read this book wherever he goes during this journey called life.”

I shared a powerful example from Srimad Bhagavatam: “A great devotee, Prahlaad Ji, at a very young age used to teach his classmates about the importance of spiritual life right from childhood (Srimad Bhagavatam Canto 7, Chapter 6, Verse 1). Your son might be another such devotee who can spread Krishna consciousness to whomever he meets.”

The father looked at his son, then at the book, and his face softened with gratitude. “So grateful… Taken.”

“Thank you so much,” I said. “Once he completes studying the Gita, you can motivate him to elevate his consciousness even higher by giving him Srimad Bhagavatam, which tells the enchanting pastimes of Lord Krishna. Let the new generation know of Srimad Bhagavad Gita, Srimad Bhagavatam, and Lord Krishna.”

“I will surely try,” he promised with quiet resolve.

I am thankful to this loving father for appreciating the scripture so deeply and gifting the Bhagavad Gita to his son!

All glories to Srila Prabhupada, who made these eternal teachings accessible so that every child, every family, every generation can grow in Krishna consciousness.

This simple exchange carries one of the most important messages for our time: The Bhagavad Gita and Srimad Bhagavatam are not just books for adults—they are treasures for children, teenagers, and youth. When a father places the Gita in his son’s hands and encourages him to carry it through life, he is not merely giving a book; he is giving direction, protection, purpose, and love for Lord Krishna that can last lifetimes.

Prahlaad Maharaj was only five years old when he began preaching Krishna consciousness to his classmates. Today’s children are no less capable. With a little encouragement, guidance, and the association of sacred books, they can become torchbearers of bhakti—spreading the glories of Lord Krishna wherever they go.

To every parent reading this: Your child may already be waiting for this gift. A personal copy of the Gita, carried in their school bag, read in quiet moments, discussed at dinner—it plants seeds that grow into unwavering devotion. And when they finish the Gita, introduce them to the enchanting pastimes of Srimad Bhagavatam. Let the coming generation know Lord Krishna—not just as a name in stories, but as their dearest friend and eternal Lord.
