Why Only the Bhagavad Gita?

This encounter turned an ordinary book distribution moment into a tender invitation to introduce Lord Krishna to the next generation.

I offered him a copy of Srimad Bhagavad Gita.

“Why only Bhagavad Gita but…?” he asked curiously.

I smiled and began quoting just a few of the treasures waiting inside:

Self-realization

Our eternal relationship with God

The mysteries of nature

The difference between body and soul

The secret of real, lasting happiness

The beauty of surrender

The path of devotional service (Bhakti)

Supreme knowledge

Karma Yoga

And so much more…

“All these can be known through this supreme scripture,” I explained.

Then I asked if his daughter (sitting with him) knows about Lord Krishna!

A thoughtful silence followed.

I gently continued, “Show her the beautiful pictures that are also there in this book of Lord Krishna and his teachings. Let her ask curious questions about them. She’ll be happy exploring, and so will you. Please read it together and pass on these eternal values to your children and the coming generations—as much as you can.”

His expression softened. “Ohk, please show me this book.”

As I handed it over, the joy was palpable.

All glories to Srila Prabhupada, whose Bhagavad Gita, As It Is, brings divine illustrations and profound wisdom straight into family life.

This moment is a beautiful reminder: The Bhagavad Gita isn’t just for adults seeking answers; it’s a family treasure. Its stories, pictures, and teachings naturally invite questions from children—“Who is Krishna riding on the chariot?” “Why is Arjuna looking worried?” “What is that beautiful place with peacocks and cows?” Those innocent curiosities become doorways to devotion, planting seeds of bhakti that can last lifetimes.

When we share the Gita with our children, we’re not just giving them a book—we’re giving them roots in the eternal, wings of real happiness, and the certainty that they are loved by the Supreme Friend.

To every parent reading this: Your child’s curiosity is sacred. A few minutes with the Gita’s pictures today could become their favorite childhood memory tomorrow—and the beginning of a lifelong love for Lord Krishna.
